JOURNAL PUBLISHERS FORUM

An annual discussion forum and dinner for senior journal publishers sponsored by the Serial Publishers Executive of the Publishers Association and by the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers.
Paradigm Shift - Where Now? 2.00 p.m. Wednesday 29th January 2003 at The Royal College of Physicians, London

Recent developments in technology have made it possible in theory for the process of scholarly communication to operate quite differently. We are all, to a greater or lesser extent, familiar with these developments. The bigger problem now as these technologies converge and mature is one of changes in attitude and policy by some of those involved. This Forum will address in depth the issues raised by these proposed changes in policy which the latest technology makes possible, and will examine some of the implications for publishers.

Rene Olivieri (Blackwell Publishing) will chair the Forum. Annette Thomas (Nature Publishing Group) and Desmond Reaney (Institute of Physics Publishing) will present the technologies and outline the issues for an expert panel to debate with delegates attending. We hope these will be drawn from across the broad spectrum of the journals publishing industry.

The Forum will be held at the Royal College of Physicians in London, and the afternoon will end with drinks and an early dinner so that discussions can continue in an informal and collegiate atmosphere. The price to members of the PA or ALPSP will be £125, to include refreshments, drinks and dinner, or £95 for those not wanting to stay for the dinner.

Delegates wishing to reserve places should contact Michele Cork at the PA. Places are limited and an early response is recommended.
