Dear Colleagues,

The UK funding body the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) has
released its policy on open access archiving today. This is available
from:
http://www.nerc.ac.uk/aboutus/access/

This is the fourth UK Research Council to make archiving mandatory,
although existing publishers' terms regarding embargoes and other
restrictions should be respected for publication in journals that are so
affected.

NERC also notes that: "Compliance with this requirement will be taken
into consideration when considering further applications for funding."

One interesting feature is that the NERC is establishing their own
repository for publications from its own staff. It is making this
repository available to authors who did not otherwise have access to an
institutional repository, creating a level playing field for its funded
authors.

The JULIET list, which records and analyses funding body requirements
for archiving, has been updated, with the NERC entry available from:
http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/juliet/#nerc

Regards,

Bill
