Whether or not the mind can be described as a purely scientific construct depends on the underlying philosophical assumptions about the nature of mind. Using Gilbert Ryle's dogma of the Ghost in the Machine, we ascertain that the mind is a scientific object. However, such a portrayal of the mind, by itself, does not determine if and how the mind can be studied scientifically. The cognitive neuroscience laboratory will be presented as the scientific framework for studying the mind. This framework aims at establishing a computationally modular architecture of the mind which emerges from the integration of behavioral studies, brain research, and computational analyses.
