<step n="1" down="alpha" across="surname"><comment>The demo focuses on eleven brothers and sisters named Holm who lived near Stavanger, Norway, in the 1880s  (the Stavanger Eleven). The window currently displays 29 people which includes close relatives of the Stavager Eleven.  First and last names are shown along the X axis (the dimension called 'Family Name'). There is an alphabetical ordering along the Y axis of whatever data is in the current column. Hence, to start off, we have the names listed in alphabetical order of first name.</comment>
<doit>Go up and down the first names by using the 'e' and 'c' keys, or by pressing the up and down buttons at the top of the window. Stop at 'Cecilie Gloersen' and the instructions for the next step of the tour will appear. </doit>

<doit>Now step across to Cecilie's surname, 'Gloersen', using the 'f' key or the right button at the top of the window.</doit>

Since you are now in the surname column, they have now been shown in alphabetical order, as the Y axis semantics demand. Since 'Gloersen' is the first surname, Cecilie appears at the top of the list.</comment>
<doit>Move back to Cecilie's first name (press 's') and then up a row to Caroline Holm (press 'e') and then press the 'y' key twice to show the successive generations of children down the page.</doit>
