Introduction

Usability can be defined as the criteria of interface quality that will leads to the ef-fective use of system, efficiency and satisfaction of user while using the tool. Website is evaluated using Top Ten Guidelines for Homepage Usability.

Explaination of criteria used


  • 1 Include a one-Sentence tagline: Page should start with good tagline, it should summarise what the company does, company’s tagline should tell about what company does. Tagline should explain user what they will get from using company’s website

  • 2 Write a window title with good visibility in search engine and bookmark list: start with companies name and brief description of website

  • 3 Group all corporate information in one distinct area: Finding about company is sometime users aim still it is better to have company’s information separately that can be seen by users

  • 4 Emphasize companies high priority task: homepage should give clear start point where user can find important task in which they may be interested

  • 5 Include search input box: user should find search box to find content of website easily, it should accommodate multiple words to better searching content on website

  • 6 Show example of real site content: With home page user should get clear idea of pages inside easily from homepage.

  • 7 Begin link name with most important keyword: Users scan down page to find the content, but links are the real action point which should be distinct with proper name so as to get idea of destination, and differentiating from other links, ideally all link names should start with company names that may create ambiguity.

  • 8 Offer easy access to recent homepage features: Recently featured content should be mentioned on website so that user can track them. The article or promotion moved from homepage to inside website should have link from homepage that can be used to track it

  • 9 Don’t over format critical content, such as navigation areas: useful content should be clearly visible should not be over formatted that may lead to confusion with users

  • 10 Use meaningful graphic: Page should not just decorate with photos, they should be relevant to the topic, and otherwise it will have negative effect
