Hi! I am Paul André, a postdoc at CMU, and finishing up my PhD in Human-Computer Interaction at the University of Southampton.
I have recently begun exploring complex and creative crowdsourcing, working with Niki Kittur and Bob Kraut. My thesis focused on social and affective computing: examining physical practices in the workplace and asking how we might use digital tools to augment or enrich those practices, (see projects on serendipity, well-being, and reminiscence).
I have been lucky enough to spend four hugely enjoyable internships at Microsoft Research, where my proudest achievement was receiving the CHI Golden Mouse Award for the co-authored parody video CHIstory, which largely involved putting Jonathan Grudin's head in a jar.
