IT Innovation Centre Electronics and Computer Science |
Stuart is currently working for the IT Innovation Centre. The IT Innovation Centre is an autonomous industry-facing part of the Department of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton. They architect, engineer and integrate innovative IT systems, with a focus on collaborative R&D. They deliver strategies, road maps, proofs-of-concept, demonstrators and novel operational systems.
Stuart's role is a lead architect & project manager on projects in the geospatial & sensor domains, applying semantic, ontological, and data fusion techniques to the problems faced by e-business and e-science. He has also worked on projects in the creative media sector, architecting enterprise level distributed media systems. He was previously with the 5* IAM research group, where he looked into recommender systems, examining aspects of agents, machine learning, user profiling and ontologies. Stuart graduated in electrical engineering from Southampton University in 1992, and has since worked commercially for Lloyd's of London, RACAL and DERA before joining Southampton University again in 1999. Stuart has thus acquired experience in a wide range of domains working at the highest level. In addition to this experience, Stuart completed a part-time masters degree in computer science with the Open University and a PhD with Southampton University.
